Celebrating the Inspiring Women at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver

March 8, 2024

On March 8th, we commemorate International Women’s Day, a global observance dedicated to honoring women's accomplishments, raising awareness of gender discrimination, and advocating for gender equality. At Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, we are fortunate to have a team of dedicated and inspiring women who empower our Club members daily. As we celebrate this special day, we are thrilled to recognize the contributions of the women within our organization who are making a lasting impact in our Clubs and communities.

This year, we aim to spotlight and celebrate the exceptional women at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. By honoring their successes and reflecting on their wisdom, we aspire to collectively inspire a brighter future for the young women in our Clubs and beyond.

Jen Andrews, Chief Operating Officer

A significant achievement you're proud of as a woman:

“I am proud of my evolving journey of learning to be my authentic self at work.”

A piece of advice for younger women:

“Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure teaches us more than winning ever will.”

Dr. Malcinia Conley, Teen Specialist at Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Club

A significant achievement you're proud of as a woman:

“I am proud of achieving my doctorate while working and volunteering in my community.”

A piece of advice for younger women:

“Never give up on your dreams. People will tell you the reasons you cannot do something. You will tell yourself that you are not smart enough. Remember, you can, and you will! Imposter syndrome is real, but you can do it!”

Rebecca Duran, Director of Healthy Lifestyles

A significant achievement you're proud of as a woman:

“While growing up in the face of many adversities, I never gave up on my dreams. I’m a first-generation college student, earning a bachelor's and a master's degree, all while working multiple jobs. I am proud of my persistence, determination, and passion. Through this experience, I discovered that I am capable of anything. And, I continue to learn this about myself as a mother. I take pride in the woman I am today. I am a leader who is resilient, innovative, and above all, compassionate.”

A piece of advice for younger women:

“Embrace your journey with courage and curiosity. Each step, big or small, is a part of your unique story. Trust yourself, speak your truth, and never underestimate the power of your voice. You have the potential to create positive change in the world, so never be afraid to step into who you are and let your heart guide the way.”

Cynthia Duron, Club Director at Boston Boys & Girls Club

A significant achievement you're proud of as a woman:

"I am proud of graduating from high school and being the first in my family to go to college. Through these accomplishments, I can demonstrate to my daughter that it's acceptable to overcome cultural barriers and persist in pursuing your aspirations."

A piece of advice for younger women:

"Being constantly reminded that you're a woman can sometimes make you doubt your worth, but you're infinitely more valuable than mere appearances or labels suggest."

As we honor the remarkable achievements and wisdom shared by the extraordinary women of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, we invite you to join us in inspiring the leaders of tomorrow.
