Senator Hickenlooper to Meet with Teens at Boys & Girls Club in Denver, Celebrate $2 Million in Congressionally Directed Spending for Boys & Girls Clubs

Denver, CO (August 8, 2023)On August 10th Senator Hickenlooper will be making a special visit to a Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver location to meet with some of his youngest constituents. The Senator will be joined by a group of teens from the Boys & Girls Club to engage in a meaningful discussion about matters significantly impacting youth in Colorado.

Boys & Girls Clubs across Colorado serve as one of the state’s leading youth development agencies. Clubs prioritize elevating youth voices by creating opportunities in which they can share their thoughts and ideas with community leaders and decision makers. This event not only offers a platform for the youth to share their perspectives, it also fosters healthy civic discourse, encouraging open dialogue between young people and political leaders. Senator Hickenlooper recognizes the importance of engaging with the younger generation, understanding that their voices play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Colorado.

Senator Hickenlooper has long been a champion for Boys & Girls Clubs. In 2022, Senator Hickenlooper and Senator Bennet supported the award of $2,000,000 in congressionally directed spending to the Boys & Girls Clubs in Colorado to enhance social and emotional programming at Clubs across the state. Since then, these funds have been used to infuse new and robust social and emotional programming for thousands of youth attending Boys & Girls Clubs across the state. At Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, whose nationally-recognized team of 11 social workers infuse mental health support and social emotional learning into daily programming, funding is utilized to support staff training and best practices within the organization’s holistic scope of youth mental health services.

Media are invited for coverage and interview starting at 4:00p.m. The event will take place on Thursday, August 10 at Vickers Boys & Girls Club at 3333 Holly St, Denver, CO 80207.
