Delwest and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver Join Forces for an Unforgettable Summer

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, our incredible community partners allow us to dream big and develop new ways to serve our community. This past summer, our collaboration with Delwest exemplified the incredible impact that can be achieved when organizations unite for a common cause. Delwest provided the accumulative funds of $30,000, which allowed us to introduce a unique summer program that made a lasting impression on our members.

A New Kind of Summer at the Club

For the entire month of June, Delwest's Baker School Apartments became the hub of excitement as it hosted a Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver customized Club experience. What made this program so special was its accessibility to the young residents of the apartments, who could simply walk down to the Baker’s School Apartments’ community center to partake in enriching summer activities.

This customized Club experience included access to our engaging programming, nutritious breakfast and lunch, technology resources, dedicated staff, and even transportation for exciting field trips.

One of the highlights of the program was a heartwarming session on friendship bracelets led by one of our full-time social workers. Members explored concepts of kindness, active listening, and patience, all crucial elements of strong friendships. One young member beautifully summed it up, "To me, friendship means love. And if we are loving everyone, then we should be able to find friendship with all kinds of people... even the different ones."

Their enthusiasm and commitment to these values shone through as they shared their thoughts on friendship, emphasizing the importance of embracing diversity and kindness.

Friday Field Trips

Throughout June, our Club members embarked on a series of fun and educational field trips that expanded their horizons.

For their first field trip, we treated the kids to a trip to the AMC Movie Theater to watch the latest Spider-Man movie. This outing was not only about entertainment but also about representation, as they saw someone who looked like them as a superhero on the big screen.

Next, we explored the world of pottery at Color Me Mine, allowing our youth to appreciate the entire pottery-making process, from painting to baking, and take home their masterpieces.

The following week saw us at the Denver Children's Museum, where STEM exploration took center stage. Interactive exhibits catered to kids of all ages, sparking curiosity and creativity.

Finally, we wrapped up our summer of field trips at Adventure Golf and Raceway, where mini-golf and go-karting brought endless smiles to our kids' faces. It was a celebration of the time we spent together.

Going the Extra Mile

Not only did our friends at Delwest support the Micro-Club for residents of the Delwest Baker's School Apartments, but also ensured access to summer programming for residents in their Park Hill Station apartments and The Landing in Commerce City. Daily transportation from Park Hill Station via the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver Bus was provided to and from our Jack A. Vickers Club. Youth at the Delwest apartments, The Landing in Commerce City, enjoyed the convenience of walking over to the Suncor Club to access our 8-week summer program, fostering a sense of community and engagement.

This summer collaboration between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver and Delwest exemplified the power of community partnerships in shaping positive experiences for our youth. We are immensely grateful to Delwest for their support, and together, we look forward to continuing to dream big and serve our community in even more remarkable ways in the future.
