Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver Celebrates International Day of Friendship

Building friendships and strong connections promotes healthy lifestyles in Denver’s youth.

Denver, CO (July 28, 2023) – This International Day of Friendship (7/30), Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver embraces the spirit of friendship and celebrates its profound impact on the lives of its Club members. Established by the UN General Assembly in 2011, The International Day of Friendship focuses on the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures, and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities. The resolution emphasizes involving future leaders in community activities that include different cultures and promote an understanding and respect for diversity.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver is committed to nurturing an environment where kids and teens can form genuine bonds, grow as individuals, and make a positive difference in their communities through the power of friendship. The organization places a high priority on establishing a safe space that fosters relationships with trustworthy adults and builds lasting friendships while Club members can discover new worlds. Club members showcase the transformative power of friendship through their reflection of strength and unity and with the incredible changes they can bring about to their community when they support each other as friends.

Erin Porteous, CEO at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver, stated, “Our Club members are more resilient than their peers and they are more likely to be involved in their communities and have stronger friendships. The Mayo Clinic reports that strong friendships have significant positive impacts for kids, including a better sense of belonging, adoption of healthier lifestyle habits, and ability to help others cope with traumatic events.”

Club members find their best friends for life at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. Axel, a teen Club member stated, “I started coming to the Club when I was six. My best friends are here, we all grew up together, coming to the Club to play basketball and then hanging out at teen night once we were older.”
