Club Member Spotlight: Yania

“If it wasn’t for the Club, I would probably be at home bored and sleeping.” – Yania, age 10

Prior to finding the Boys & Girls Club, Yania was starved. Not for food, but for friends.

She recalls having just one friend she could turn to, which barely felt like enough to get by. It was not until she joined the Boys & Girls Club three years ago that her starvation for friends would be satisfied.

Now, Yania is 10-years-old and can walk into the Club on any given day and find friends to play with. Her social network, curiosity and sense of community flourish at the Club. She enjoys expressing her creative side in the art room, letting her imagination run wild.

With the support of her friends and the staff at the Club, Yania is motivated to dream big and keep learning. When she grows up, she aspires to become a police officer so that she can help stop crime. Her mom envisions a future in nursing for her, and her dad thinks that one day Yania will be an Olympian. With lofty goals, Yania has the support of her Club to help her take the right steps to building a promising future as a lifelong learner who can positively influence her community.

Your gift today will give children like Yania a place that fosters their curiosity and programs that help them reach their full potential. You can nurture a sense of wonder by providing kids with a safe, supportive environment where they can risk being themselves without any risk at all.
