Micah’s Story

When Micah joined the Club more than five years ago, he struggled with self-confidence. He has a hearing impairment and was often reserved and shy. But Micah quickly learned that the Club is a safe, inclusive place that is free of judgment. He says, “The Club is one of the safest places for kids. Kids come in and meet new people from all different backgrounds.”

Micah soon opened up and became incredibly active in the Club, playing basketball and lacrosse, organizing and leading events, and becoming a peer leader and junior staff member. With the support and encouragement of our dedicated staff, he overcame his fear of speaking and now represents his Club in the community. His drive, determination and teamwork positions him as a true leader; he has a 3.8 GPA and is currently being recruited to play lacrosse at the University of Denver, Cornell and University of Houston – just to name a few. Micah shared, “The Club has taught me to be a leader. Now my dream for the future is to be able to give back to my community.”

Micah has proven to himself, and to everyone else, that nothing can keep him down. With your support and the connections provided at his Club, he has become an enthusiastic, outgoing and accomplished young man. And we can’t wait to see where his well-earned self-confidence takes him.

“The Club has taught me to be a leader. ”
