Jack A. Vickers Boys & Girls Club Celebrates 10 Years in Northeast Park Hill

Nancy P. Anschutz Center Organizations Gather to Commemorate a Decade of Service and Hope with a Trunk-or-Treat and Community-Wide Celebration

Denver, CO (October 13, 2023) Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver and community organizations from Nancy P. Anschutz Center in Northeast Park Hill will come together to host a neighborhood-wide community event on October 27, 2023 from 4 – 6:30 p.m. at Jack A. Vickers Boys & Girls Club. The Club and its neighboring organizations, including the Denver Public Library, Denver Parks & Recreation, Hope Center, and Center for African American Health, will honor a decade of serving kids, teens, and families in Northeast Park Hill with local food trucks, a trunk-or-treat, and activities for the whole family. The entire community is invited to attend this free event.

Brief special remarks will be delivered at 4:30 by Denver Mayor Mike Johnston and Erin Porteous, Chief Executive Officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. Media are invited to attend the program, from 4:30 – 5 p.m.

Following an arson that devastated The Holly in 2008, residents of the neighborhood joined forces with city leaders to create the Holly Area Redevelopment Project (HARP) to rebuild the community’s center and bring hope, healing, and connection to the neighborhood. Chief among HARP’s priorities was creating safe spaces to provide neighborhood kids with education and opportunity. Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver joined the effort in 2009, turning to longtime supporter The Anschutz Foundation for support. Thanks to the foundation, the Nancy P. Anschutz Center was born, and with it the Jack A. Vickers Boys & Girls Club.

Today, the Vickers Club is a safe space for members to find connection and belonging, focus on academic success and leadership skills, and learn about healthy lifestyles. Each year, more than 500 members benefit from the holistic range of programs and opportunities the Club offers. October’s 10 Year Anniversary Celebration invites neighborhood residents and the greater community to come together in the same spirit of connection and joy that once inspired the creation of the Nancy P. Anschutz Center and Jack A. Vickers Boys & Girls Club.
