For more than a decade, Suncor has generously provided significant long-term financial support to Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. Responding to a desperate need for affordable youth services in Commerce City, in 2007 Suncor helped to establish Boys & Girls Club programming in the Kearney Middle School. As the needs for our services grew, Suncor played a pivotal role in funding a capital campaign to build the new free-standing Suncor Boys & Girls Club in 2015.
In 2017, representatives from Suncor helped us celebrate the grand opening of the Pat Bowlen Field at the Suncor Youth Development Park. Located adjacent to the Suncor Boys & Girls Club, this incredible turf field allows us to further engage Club members in a wide variety of sports and outdoor activities. The field alleviates some of the impact that had been put on the other Boys & Girls Club fields in the Denver area and allows Commerce City youth to compete in events in their own neighborhood.
Join a community of companies who believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to reach their greatest potential.
“The best thing about the field outside is that our softball games are here, and now my mom and dad can come see me play,” said 11-year-old Club member Khiana.
Nancy Thonen, Suncor’s Director of Product Supply & Refinery Sales, has been a huge advocate for BGCMD programming. Nancy serves as the secretary on the BGCMD Board of Directors and is committed to engaging her company in a variety ways. Suncor employees can be found supporting youth at Boys & Girls Clubs’ annual signature events as well as rolling their sleeves up and working on volunteer projects including cleaning Clubs and trekking up to our summer Gates Camp to help keep the cabins and land in top shape.
