For families across metro Denver, the cost of after-school care can add up. A new partnership between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver and Colorado Access will help ease that burden for hundreds of local families.
With support from Colorado Access, scholarships will help cover Club membership costs for 400 Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver members who are Medicaid-eligible across 18 Clubs in Denver, Aurora, Commerce City, and Brighton.
The scholarships will help these kids and teens continue to take part in the experiences and opportunities they have at the Club every day. That includes healthy habits for their minds and bodies. Through our Healthy Lifestyles programs, Club members explore nutrition, stay active, spend time outdoors and learn skills that can help them make healthy choices now and in the future.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver and Colorado Access will also work together to help Club families who may qualify for Medicaid learn more about available coverage and how to enroll. BGCMD’s Mental Health Team will help connect interested families with Colorado Access resources and support, building on the assistance already available to families at the Club.
It’s all part of helping families get the support they need, while making sure more kids and teens can continue to take advantage of everything the Club has to offer.
“Families want the same things for their kids: a place where they’re safe, supported, encouraged to try new things, and surrounded by people who believe in them,” said Erin Porteous, CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. “Cost shouldn’t be what keeps a kid or teen from having that experience. We’re incredibly grateful to Colorado Access for investing in Club families and helping kids and teens continue to benefit from everything the Club has to offer.”
For parents and caregivers, that support also means peace of mind knowing their child has a safe, supportive place to be after school. Across 25 neighborhood Clubs, kids and teens are surrounded by caring mentors and have opportunities to explore everything from STEM and the arts to leadership and athletics.
