March 2014 we welcomed an exciting new addition to the Boys & Girls Clubs family here in Denver – John L. Barry is beginning his service as the organization’s new President and CEO.
Barry is a proven leader with a notable background in education and a vision for youth development. From 2006-2013, he served as superintendent of Aurora Public Schools, the sixth largest district in Colorado. He brings a deep understanding of public education and the importance of after-school programming that promotes the success of the whole child, including educational, lifestyle and activity choices.
He also served for more than 30 years as an officer in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a “two-star” major general. His well-rounded experiences, through civic and community service will enhance the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs through expanded innovation and growth.
Kathy’s career with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver began in 1980 as the receptionist after completing a business program at Parks Business College.
Kathy continually took on new challenges, roles, and positions and has worked in nearly every department of the organization during her career at BGCMD.
In 2004, Kathy was selected to be Vice President of Development and in 2006 she was named Chief Operating Officer.
Kathy served as the secretary of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of The Professional Association from 1983 to 1987 and has served on several national committees for Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Vice President of Finance: Phil Bloise
Prior to that, he has held positions with Holben Cooper Christian CPAs LLC, The Colorado Trust, and the University of Colorado Foundation.
Phil holds a Bachelor of Arts from Western State College and a Master of Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
He is a Certified Public Accountant.
As the Vice President of Program Services, Tina oversees all Clubs, including programming, partnerships, and evaluation of our six core program areas. Since beginning her career with Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver in 1998, she has held the positions of Cultural Arts Program Specialist, Education Program Specialist, Assistant
Program Director/Diversity Coordinator, and Director of Programs.
In addition to her work at BGCMD, Tina is a National Training Associate for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in the areas of Diversity and Program Basics and a member of the BGCA National Diversity Committee. She also serves on several committees that aim to improve the lives of youth in the community, including: Denver Quality Afterschool Connection, Smart-Girl Program Committee, Colorado Action for Healthy Kids, Denver Museum of Nature and Science Education Advisory Panel, and the Edison Elementary Collaborative School Committee. Tina graduated from the University of Colorado at Denver with a B.A. in Communication.
In the role of Vice President of Development, Erin oversees all fundraising, marketing and communication efforts, and special events for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. Prior to working at Boys & Girls Clubs, Erin had an established tenure in the non-profit sector working for the University of Colorado, and also Frederik Meijer Gardens, in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Erin joined the Boys & Girls Club team in 2006 initially working on special events, and then growing into a role to direct all marketing and event initiatives. Under her leadership, Boys & Girls Clubs has continued to improve both the scale and quality of the special events and marketing programs while exceeding revenue goals annually. Erin has a deep passion for serving those in need both here in Denver and also globally, including her participation in long-term volunteer projects in Brazil and South Africa.
