Boys & Girls Clubs Gala

The Boys & Girls Clubs Gala (formerly the Youth of the Year Gala), is the organization’s largest annual event, honoring outstanding youth from each of our 14 Club program sites. This exciting evening showcases individual achievements and highlights the impactful programs offered to more than 2,000 youth who visit their Clubs each day. The Gala welcomes 1,000 business leaders, elected officials and community members committed to helping Club members.

Honorees are selected based on year-long efforts in the areas of leadership, academic achievement, community service, and overcoming obstacles. We are excited to celebrate the 2013 Metro Denver Youth of the Year Award Winner at this year’s Gala.
About the 2013 Youth of the Year
Moises Banuelos is an intelligent 16-year-old who thrives on being involved in any and everything. Moises lives in Denver, Colorado and has been a member of our William E. Cope Club for 10 years. After becoming a member, Moises quickly became involved in many programs, participating in the Teen Outreach Program, implementing an anti-bullying program, and serving as the Keystone Leadership Club President and as a SMART Moves peer leader. Moises is a junior at Abraham Lincoln High School, where he is excelling in several Advanced Placement (AP) courses, is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as the Student Council Treasurer. He is currently ranked 6 out of 407 students with a 4.5 cumulative GPA. Through his involvement with school and the Club, Moises has planned and implemented several community service projects including graffiti removal, a blanket drive for the homeless, and a Trick-or-Treat Street Halloween event for the community. Moises is on track to graduate with honors in 2014 and plans to attend the University of Denver where he wants to study to become a Federal Bureau of Investigation agent.

Being part of the Boys & Girls Club is a privilege that is not paid for in the $2 membership fee, but rather the time and love one devotes to it.
